A Message from Fr. David

I’m so glad to finally be with you here at Holy Spirit!

When I first moved to Grand Rapids in 2014, Holy Spirit was the first Catholic parish I passed driving into town. Your reputation had preceded you—I was familiar with Holy Spirit’s young adult ministry, Connect, and I had heard that the parish had the reputation of being a vibrant faith community. Of course at the time, I never could have imagined that I would one day serve here as an associate pastor.

I also never could have imagined that I would be infected with COVID two days before beginning this new assignment. Thank you for your patience over these past couple of weeks as I have been in isolation recovering. While I had hoped to begin my time here under different circumstances, I’m glad to have finally arrived.

Thank you, also, for such a warm welcome this weekend! Please say hello today after Mass, and help yourself to some ice cream or a donut (or three); I know we had to postpone this welcome two weekends in a row, but I promise…the donuts are fresh!

During my time here at Holy Spirit, I hope to learn as much as I can from Fr. Mark and from each of you about what it means to be a holy and joyful priest—one who continually offers himself as a gift to others in imitation of Christ, loving and serving God by being truly
devoted and available to the people of God placed in his care.

It is a joy to serve you and to pray for you and with you! Please do not hesitate in letting me know how I can be doing this. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you, and I’m thankful for this opportunity to grow closer to Christ along with you!

Fr. David

Join us after all Masses this weekend for refreshments as we welcome Fr. David. He is looking forward to meeting all of you! Due to the Frank Diehl Memorial Blood Drive taking place in the Multipurpose Room, refreshments will be served out the front north doors under the canopy.
